A purebred dog is a dog whose ancestors belonged to the same breed and were crossed only with representatives of the same breed.

Each breed is included in a group collected according to common characteristics.

WKG dog groups

Group 1 — shepherd, guard, service, working

These breeds have their own job. Some pull sleds or carts, while others herd cattle, others guard cattle, houses, businesses. Among them are rescuers and indispensable assistants for people with disabilities.

Group 2 — Spitz, primitive, Laika

Primitive dog breeds were formed naturally, with minimal human participation in selection. Laikas, in turn, are hunting dogs of the northern forest zone, and Spitz are a group of breeds characterized by a certain type of structure, including erect ears and a curled tail.

Group 3 — Terriers

Terriers were bred to hunt burrowing animals and control rodents. The name «terrier» comes from the French «terre» and Latin «terra», meaning «earth» or «burrow», indicating their primary purpose. Although terriers are often kept as pets today, their hunting roots are evident in their courage, energy, and stubbornness.

Group 4 — Hunting

Dogs of various breeds bred and used to assist humans in hunting game. They are intended for different types of hunting. The main categories of hunting dogs include greyhounds, hounds, dachshunds, and others.

Group 5 — Decorative and Companion Dogs

Toy breeds are small companion or house dogs. Many were bred specifically for this purpose, although some were included in this category solely because of their size. They should have a friendly nature and love attention.

There is a standard for each dog breed. This is a verbal image that describes the breed in detail, including how a healthy dog of this breed should look, how it should move, and what its character should be.

Pedigree dogs have a pedigree.

A dog’s pedigree is an official document confirming their origin. The pedigree contains information about the animal itself, such as its nickname, date of birth, color, etc., and information about the generations of the dog’s ancestors (parents, grandfathers, grandmothers. The WKG pedigree is issued on a uniform form with the logos of the WKG and the participant’s organization and partners, if any. They must have a clearly visible seal of the participant’s organization, the signature of the director.
